Saras Micro Devices Completes Move to New Atlanta Facility

Large cleanroom and testing lab will serve as the innovation center of excellence for its
power delivery solutions for semiconductor devices

 Saras Micro Devices announced today that it has completed the build-out of its lab and office space in the Inland Tract property located in West Midtown. The move supports the expansion of the company’s Atlanta research and development operations.

Saras Micro Devices is designing and fabricating innovative power delivery solutions that will revolutionize next-generation electronics products. Saras’ advanced, substrate embedded, Integrated Passive Devices (AIPD™) represent a transformative power delivery solution, offering significant improvements in power and thermal efficiency for high-performance compute and artificial intelligence/machine learning processor applications.

“It is with immense pride and excitement that Saras officially opens the Inland Tract R&D site,” said Ron Huemoeller, Chief Executive Officer. “This facility is a testament to our desire to continue to push the technological boundaries as well as our commitment to enhance the most advanced power performance products in the semiconductor industry.”

At the heart of the facility is 4,100 square feet of cleanroom space, which will serve as an incubator to groundbreaking product development. Adjacent to the cleanroom is an additional 1,000 square feet of dedicated, state-of-the-art testing and failure analysis lab space.

The Inland Tract facility also boasts 9,900 square feet of contemporary office space. Careful consideration was given to the design and layout to ensure productivity, comfort and well-being was optimized, creating an environment that is both engaging and efficient.  This has now become home to Saras’ team of 26 full-time Atlanta-based employees.

Saras Micro is currently completing the buildout of a manufacturing facility in Chandler, AZ and is also planning to add an office in Cupertino, CA in the future that will be the design center of excellence for the company.

Saras Micro Devices has been named the Startup of the Year in the 2023 3D InCites Awards. The 2023 3D Incites Awards recognize excellence in heterogeneous integration technologies.

Saras Micro Devices was one of four nominees in the category. Nominations are made by industry professionals who wish to recognize a technology, individual, or company that has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the heterogeneous roadmap including 3D packaging, interposer integration, advanced fan-out wafer-level packaging, MEMS and sensors, and full system integration.

Winners are chosen by a select panel of judges as well as industry peers through an online voting process. Awards were presented at an in-person ceremony on March 14 at the IMAPS Device Packaging Conference in Fountain Hills, Arizona.

Saras Micro Devices Set to Expand in Atlanta with New Inland Tract Office

Company innovating next generation of power management for semiconductors

 

Saras Micro Devices has selected the Inland Tract property located in West Midtown as it prepares to expand its Atlanta research and development operations. The start-up company is designing and fabricating innovative power delivery solutions that will revolutionize next-generation electronics products.

Saras’ advanced Integrated Passive Devices (AIPD™) represent a transformative power delivery solution, offering significant improvements in power and thermal efficiency for high-performance compute and artificial intelligence/machine learning processor applications.

“In selecting a site, we wanted to maintain our proximity to Georgia Tech, where access to their best-in-class facilities, equipment and technologists enable us to accelerate our development,” said Ron Huemoeller, Chief Executive Officer. “We felt that being in the heart of the city was also advantageous in attracting top talent, particularly early career engineers and researchers.”

The company’s current office near Georgia Tech has approximately 2,000 square feet; to support its growth, the company will lease 17,706 square feet at Inland Tract and expects to relocate to that facility in June 2023.

“Our team is rapidly growing, and we need more space to support our activities,” Huemoeller added. “Relocation to the larger and consolidated Inland Tract site will help us improve our operating efficiency, accelerate our research and development, and deliver the continued product innovation our customers and supply chain partners have come to expect.”

Saras Micro Devices Appoints Industry Leader Ron Huemoeller to CEO

The Board of Directors of Saras Micro Devices (SMD), a provider of advanced power delivery solutions for high-performance semiconductor devices, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ron Huemoeller as Chief Executive Officer effective January 9, 2023.

Huemoeller will assume responsibility for providing leadership, strategy, and technical direction to the talented SMD team in Atlanta, GA; Chandler, AZ; and Cupertino, CA. In addition, he will serve on the company’s Board of Directors. Huemoeller’s more than 25 years of senior/executive management experience in semiconductor packaging and technology will enable him to position Saras for both short- and long-term success.

Most recently, Huemoeller served as Managing Director at Applied Materials for their Packaging Business Unit, following his role as President of Nano Circuit Technologies where he provided business and technology innovation services to semiconductor companies globally. Prior to this he served as Corporate Vice President at Amkor Technology as the Head of Global R&D and Technology Strategy. In this role he established corporate technology strategy and direction, bringing more than 250 new products into production and generating more than $2 billion dollars in profitable revenue over a five-year period.

Before Amkor, Huemoeller served as Director/Head Engineer of Printed Circuit Operations for Cray Computer Corporation where he led a core team of engineers and technicians in the startup and production ramp of a laminate substrate module operation serving the world’s fastest supercomputers. He has been granted more than 200 U.S. patents, including foundational patents for semiconductor packaging technologies including Fan Out, TMV, Flip Chip, Si-Bridge, TSV and numerous substrate technologies. He is former President/ Past President of the International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (IMAPS), positions he held from 2016-2020.

Huemoeller holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Augsburg University, graduating with highest honors, and a Master’s in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.

Saras Micro Devices Selects Technology Manufacturing Site in Arizona

Company innovating next generation of power management for semiconductors

 

Saras Micro Devices has selected a site in the Price Corridor in Chandler, AZ to build out a manufacturing facility for its advanced power delivery solutions. Saras is collocating with its partner company, Yield Engineering Systems, which recently announced it would lease 123,000 square feet in the area.

Arizona – particularly the Greater Phoenix area – has become a leading and preferred location for the US semiconductor industry. The Greater Phoenix area is home to 22,203 semiconductor and other electronic component manufacturing jobs and is the third largest metro area for semiconductor manufacturing employment (Emsi 2021 Q1). In addition, the reliable power grid, proximity to customers, supply chain ecosystem, regional accessibility, industrial infrastructure and competitive operating costs make the Greater Phoenix area extremely strategic for Saras Micro Devices’ manufacturing location.

The company also has an office in Atlanta, GA that is focused on research and development and is planning to add an office in Cupertino, CA in the future that will be the design center of excellence for the company.  Currently, there are approximately 25 engineers at the Atlanta site focused on research and development. Saras expects the Chandler site to have about 15 full-time employees by the end of 2022, growing to double that number by next summer, and it will continue to grow as more operations and products come online.
